Promalin is a plant growth regulator used on apples, non-bearing pears, and non-bearing sweet cherries to manage fruit development. Its active ingredient is Gibberellins A.A. at 1.8% w/w. The product is designed to improve the shape of apples through fruit elongation and to increase the size and weight of fruit on most varieties. It also helps increase lateral bud break and shoot growth, providing a better tree framework for early cropping. For pears, it can be used to increase fruit set after a frost. Application involves spray coverage to ensure all parts of the plant receive the directed amount. When applying, ensure sufficient water is used to ensure thorough coverage without excessive runoff. Users should avoid application during freezing temperatures or when temperatures are below freezing at 90°F. It is important to note that rainfall or irrigation within 6 hours after application can reduce effectiveness. For pest control technicians, note that this is a growth regulator, not a pesticide for pest control, and requires specific PPE including long-sleeved shirts, long pants, waterproof gloves, and shoe plus socks.
